Sunshine Coast, Heaven on Earth
North of Vancouver lies a heavenly place I never wanted to leave: the Sunshine Coast. Here, no white sand beach, surfer spot or shark. Instead, you’ll find serene lakes, native forests, majestic wildlife and wonderful people. Let’s take a tour to discover British Columbia’s most hidden gem.
As locals like to remind you, the Sunshine Coast is not an island. The confusion might be understandable, though, since the only practical way to go there is to take the ferry from Horseshoe Bay, at the continental end of the Trans-Canada Highway. As a result, it would take you several hours to access this paradise from downtown Vancouver. Luckily for me, the magic of remote working made this brutal commute completely non-existent.
The sunrises are something else over there. Garden Bay, BC
The place where we had the pleasure to live was a bay surrounded by lakes and hills, which made it a wonderful place to hike. During our time there, we’ve enjoyed breathtaking views, misty mornings and luxurious forests — less than a few minutes away from our doorstep!
Most people visit the Sunshine Coast during the summer to enjoy the lakes, the hikes and the sunshine (duh!). However, we found the winter even more magical. The rythm is slower, the days are shorter, the roads are extremely dicy, sometimes the power is out for days on end, but who cares? You just go outside and take a look at the mist, the frozen lakes, the snow covered trees, and you feel you’re outside of this world.
